Gantry vs. engine hoist
A folding engine hoist (cherry picker) reaches over a fender from one side on a cantilevered boom — capacity drops as the boom extends, and the legs need clear floor under the car. A gantry lifts from directly above on a trolley that traverses the beam: full rated capacity anywhere on the span, no boom geometry to fight, and the same crane handles the machine base, the truck bed, and the shop door next month. For dedicated engine-bay work an engine hoist is cheap and compact; the gantry is the general-purpose lift.
