Specialty riggers and machinery movers work in spaces truck cranes don't fit, forklifts can't reach, and overhead cranes don't exist. The lift has to happen through a doorway, around a column, under a duct, or in a building where the only point of access is the freight elevator. eme portable aluminum gantries — 4,400 to 22,000 lb capacity — were built for exactly that constraint. The 22000 Series is eme's flagship 10-tonne portable aluminum gantry — one of the highest-capacity portable aluminum gantries available.

What Specialty Riggers Actually Move.

Six categories cover most of the moves a specialty rigging firm books. The constraint is almost always the same: the lift has to happen in a space the load came in through, and a truck crane wasn\'t a viable answer.

Plant Relocations

Moving an entire production line from one building to another — or one bay to the next. Portable gantries roll the equipment through corridors and doorways a truck crane can't reach.

Machine Tool Positioning

CNCs, presses, EDM machines, large lathes — set on the leveled pad to alignment tolerance the rigger's plan calls for. The gantry sets the machine, then rolls back out without leaving structural marks.

Low-Headroom Lifts

Drop ceilings, overhead piping, structural beams — anywhere the ceiling height is under 12 ft and a chain hoist alone won't pick the load. eme gantries assemble to the available headroom.

Multi-Stage Hand-Offs

Truck crane sets the load on a temporary cribbed pad, the eme gantry picks it up and rolls it through the building, then sets it on the final pad. Two cranes, one continuous lift plan, no re-rigging.

Confined-Space Extractions

Removing equipment from a bay or pit where it was installed before the surrounding walls went up. The gantry assembles around the load and lifts it out vertically.

Press & Die Handling

Stamping press setups, die changes, fixture removals. The 22000 Series — eme's flagship 10-tonne portable aluminum gantry — is built for many higher-capacity loads in constrained spaces where conventional lifting equipment cannot practically reach.

The Documentation a Rigging Lift Plan Demands.

OSHA requires a crane to be proof-load tested to 125% of rated capacity before it is placed into service — an obligation on the employer putting the crane to work. eme completes that proof test on every gantry as part of its quality-control process, so each one ships with an engineer-stamped drawing, a Certificate of Test at 125% of rated capacity, and a documented load path — the documentation a rigging lift plan or owner\'s safety review may request, with the pre-service proof test already done. Gantries are engineered to applicable ASME and CSA lifting requirements and welded under CSA W47.2 certification by qualified aluminum welders.
