- Walk the path first. Level, prepared surface the whole way — no slopes, no soft ground, no surprise expansion joints or cords. Confirm door widths and overhead clearance against the crane’s set height.
- Set the lift height for travel, not for the pick. Keep the load as low as practical once it’s clear of obstructions — standard rigging practice that keeps the center of gravity close to the base.
- Center and control the load. Load centered under the beam, within rated capacity, swing controlled by hand or tagline before the first wheel turns.
- Unlock, roll at walking pace, relock. Four-position swivel locks set for straight-line travel where the path allows; smooth starts and stops; a spotter when sightlines are limited.

When not to roll a loaded gantry
