Case Study #1 | Government of Canada Mini-Sub Launch

Two custom electric-winch-equipped Gantry Cranes from eme were the solution to this challenge of launching mini-subs through Arctic ice.

The Client

Federal Government of Canada

Project Requirements

In order to chart Canada’s Continental Shelf, the Canadian Government used mini-subs to go under the ice. This job was to be completed in 2013.

The Challenge

Launching and retrieving the mini-subs through the ice.

The Solution

The solution was for eme to build two custom electric-winch-equipped Gantry Cranes that were rated at 5,500 lbs.

The portable aluminum Gantry Cranes were easily transported and assembled in the high Arctic. They were then used to lower and raise the mini-subs as required.

After the completed job, they remained in the Arctic for further work.
